GOD IS ONE.
Deuteronomy 6:4 - "Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!"GOD IS ETERNAL.
Psalm 90:2 - "Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God."GOD IS OMNISCIENT.
I John 3:20 - "For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things."GOD IS OMNIPOTENT.
Jeremiah 32:17 - "Ah, Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and outstretched arm. There is nothing too hard for You."GOD IS SPIRIT.
John 4:24 - "God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."GOD IS JUST.
Revelation 14:3 - "...Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!"GOD IS FAITHFUL.
II Timothy 2:13 - "If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself."GOD IS HOLY.
I Peter 1:15,16 - "But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct."GOD IS LOVING.
I John 4:8,9 - "He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him."GOD IS LONGSUFFERING.
II Peter 3:9 - "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."GOD IS MERCIFUL.
I Peter 1:3 - "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead."GOD IS GRACIOUS.
Psalm 116:5 - "Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is merciful."
If we put all twelve of these points together into a sentence, this is the result: God is one, eternal, omniscient, omnipotent Spirit, who is just, faithful, holy, loving, longsuffering, merciful, and gracious.
Are there other attributes that God possesses that the Scriptures mention? Absolutely. But, these are the twelve I wanted to share today. I encourage you to create your own list of God's attributes, as revealed in the Bible.
Perhaps the most comprehensive passage that ties many of these ideas together is Exodus 34:6,7 - "And the LORD passed before him [Moses] and proclaimed, 'The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children's children to the third and the fourth generation.'"
And, if one continues reading in that context, he will see the proper response of one who understood who God is. Exodus 34:8 records- "So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped."
Friends, although it is not good to be quick to speak or quick to wrath, may we always be quick to bow our heads and worship Almighty God! Jehovah is awesome, and let us never hesitate to give Him the glory that is due to Him!
